SUMO

MEANING OF SUMO

Sumo is a competitive sport where a wrestler or 'rikishi' attempts to force other wrestler out of a circular ring or call a donyo. In shinto religion sumo as a entertain for 'Shinto Gods'. Japan is only country that have a profesionallyty in this sport. The sumo tradition is very ancient and unique. Even today this sport still includes many rituals element from Shinto religion. The example of ritual that they still use are salt purification. The professional sumo wrestlers are Rikishi are required to live in communal sumo training stables that is known as 'heya' where all aspect of their daily life.

DOHYO
Sumo sport takes place in Dohyo. Dohyo is a cecular ring that have about 4.55 meter in diameter and 16.26 square meter in areas. Dohyo was made up from clay and sand. Moreover at the centre of two lines,the Shikiri-sen,behind which the wrestler position themselves at the starts of the bout. Dohyo roof is may be suspended over Dohyo.
